I am looking at different breast pumps, but don't know what the best route would be. I know everyone is different, but what are your opinions? Manual? Electric? What brand? What type of bottles/bags do I need to store milk in?
Thanks!

Electric all the way. Manual are good for just getting pressure off. I have one and I have loved it. If you're going back to work, an electric is a must. In my opinion, even if you're not going back to work, electric is a must. You can do both sides in the same amount of time and it's great for pumping in the car if you're going on vacations, etc. (while someone else is driving, of course). My pump is Medela...love it!! As far as bags, I used ziploc snack bags...I know a lot of people don't like these because sometimes they can leak. I didn't need them a lot so they were fine for me. Lansinoh does put out some nice bags for storing. Good luck!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kristin. Medela electric is best if you're pumping on a regular basis. Also, I used Lansinoh bags and really liked them. They were easy to label and the oz. indicator was helpful for telling me how much milk I had pumped.
ReplyDeleteAh breast pumps...I bought a Medela electric one (and they're not cheap - like $160) and it's quick and isn't too uncomfortable. I bet there are more comfy ones out there now. And I never stored a lot of milk, just usually pumped for a bottle if I was on date night or something. Somehow I ended up with Lansinoh bags as free samples and they're good for (as Amor said) seeing how many oz. are in there.
ReplyDeleteRemember, whatever you deplete will be replenished and if the baby doesn't drink it, you'll have to pump.
Ditto- Medela Electric all the way! I used ziploc too, and lansinoh sample bags (they were nice, but ziploc work as well.) I think the milk didn't get freezer burnt really in the lansinoh bags...
